Benjamin H. Purcell was born February 14, 1928, in Banks County, Georgia. He attended public schools in Habersham County and graduated from Clarkesville High School in 1945. During 1946, Purcell served ten months in the United States Navy. In 1947, Purcell returned to Georgia and enrolled in North Georgia College (now the University of North Georgia), earning a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1950 and an Army commission through the college's ROTC program.

Mrs. Purcell was born September 25, 1923 in Washington D. C. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School in 1942. During World War II she was active in the USO stateside. She married Edward E. Purcell, Jr. in 1951 and they moved to Vienna in 1960 to raise their six children. Anne was active in the Catholic community as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. Purcell held positions at the Social Security Administration and the family owned business PTI Communications. She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter Dr. Rita Purcell-Robertson of Clifton, Va., and her grandson, Patrick R. Purcell of Herndon, VA. She is survived by a son Edward E. Purcell, III, of Hollywood, Maryland; a daughter Anne P. Clark (John) of Burke, Va.; a son Patrick J. Purcell (Janita), of Oakton, Virginia; a son Daniel F.
