Whether you're new to asymmetrical multiplayer games or are a veteran, it can't hurt to have a few beginner tips to get you started. We've got you covered with a few suggestions to help you navigate the game before hitting that Matchmake button for the first time.
Matchmaking Is Random
When you're ready to begin a live match of Killer Klowns, select the first option in the menu: Matchmake. You'll be able to select your preference of playing as a Klown or Human, and the matchmaking system will do its best to give you your preferred choice.
We recommend becoming as familiar as possible with how to play either side. Matchmaking is still random and depending on lobby sizes, you might get put on a team that is not your preference.
Additionally, playing the opposing side of your choice will give you a more rounded map awareness and help improve your overall gameplay.
Learn The Maps
Speaking of map awareness, whether you're playing as a Klown or a Human, it’s a good idea to become familiar with the different maps as soon as possible.
There are currently five maps available, all centered around the town of Crescent Cove:
- Amusem*nt Park
- Top Of The World
- Crescent Cove Downtown
- The Suburbs
- Clown Summer Camp
As a Human, becoming familiar with the maps can help you keep a low profile and hide from the Klowns. As a Klown, knowing the maps ensures you know where to look for any humans hiding and trying to sneak around.
The locations of the escape points will change each time you load into a match, but the more familiar you are with each map, you'll have a better idea of where they are, whether you're a Human or a Klown.
Utilize Voice Chat
Communication is key whether you're a Klown or a Human, so we highly recommend enabling voice chat in your game. During the pre-game matchmaking lobby, you'll be able to chat with all players, including those of the opposing team.
During the match, however, voice chat is based on proximity, so you can only chat with those who are close to you. Be careful when discussing your plans, though, because if someone from the opposing team is nearby, they will be able to overhear and learn what you are about to do.
Customize Your Loadout
In the main menu, scroll down to Customize, and you can change your loadout for Klown and Human. Early on in the game you may only have a few options for characters and cosmetics, but the more you play and level up, you'll eventually unlock the others.
You will not be able to change your loadout once matchmaking begins, so make sure you have what you want or need before loading in. When you begin unlocking other characters and cosmetics, you will need to leave matchmaking to make any changes.
What Is Klownpocalypse?
The Klown invasion has already begun, and the Humans in each match are the last remaining Humans alive. The match timer at the top of the screen is counting down to when the Lackey Generators ultimately detonate, triggering a massive blast city-wide that will kill all Humans. This is Klownpocalypse.
Klownpocalypse is inevitable, and could also get triggered early by the Klowns. The Humans' only options are to escape the city, or die trying.
Learn How To Play As A Human
Playing as a Human is mostly about being quiet and stealthy. The more noise you make, the more likely you are to attract a Klown's attention.
At the start of every match, your main goal is to keep a low profile, loot everything, and find a way to escape.
Learn How To Play As A Klown
When you play as a Klown, there is no way to do so quietly. But that's okay, because you don't need to be quiet or sneaky!
Your job is to work with your fellow Klowns and kill the last remaining Humans before they can escape. Alternatively, you can also hook up the candy-cotton cocoons to all the Lacky Generators to trigger the Klownpocalypse early.
