Class 1 is the premier class of offshore powerboat racing in the world and is considered to be one of the most spectacular marine motorsports. A Class 1 race boat has twin inboard 1100hp engines and can reach speeds in excess of 160mph.

The series champion across the five P1 rounds will receive $50,000, with the runner-up earning $35,000 and the third-place finisher $25,000. The purse includes per-race payouts of $5,000 for the winner, $2,500 for second, $1,500 for third, $1,000 for forth and $500 for fifth place.

P1 is a relatively new concept that is growing fast in the nautical world. Boats rush at high speeds across the water and compete against other boats to win world championships and grands prix.

The Vendée Globe pits the sailing elite against one another in a 24,300-mile race. Often referred to as the Everest of the seas, the yachtsmen and women who partake in the maritime epic every four years must sail solo around the world with no stops or assistance.

The P1 is electronically limited to a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). The P1 has a dry weight of 1,395 kg (3,075 lb), giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 656 PS/tonne.

F1 boats are powered by a Mercury Marine V6 two stroke that burns 100LL Avgas at a rate of 120 liters (32 gallons) per hour, generating over 400 horsepower at 10,500 rpm. This engine can propel the boats to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than two seconds and to a maximum speed of over 250 km/h (155 mph).

Miss GEICO officially retired from offshore powerboat racing in August 2021 due to the withdrawal of its main sponsor, GEICO.

There is no prize money for winning the Volvo Ocean Race – just the prestige of overcoming one of the greatest challenges in professional sport. The Trophy is a symbol of a great many sacrifices made by a great many sailors over the years, with each circle representing an edition of the race going back to 1973-74.
