okay so: I feel so heavily that rudy is a trans guy, but just presents himself femininely because he likes frilly dresses, but also likes being perceived as a boy in said frilly dress. like he says in the comic, it’s cool to be feminine!!!!! it would explain why hes so uncomfortable when misgendered, and would explain his dads slight opposition to him dressing femininely. im sure he accepted his son when he came out, but now that hes dressing femininely again, its waay more confusing him. and the reason his mom would be so open to him dressing fem would be that she “misses the daughter she had” and by rudy dressing more fem, his mom feels more connected to him

Love this but also I feel like him being FTM takes away from his backstory/plot in a (sorta) sense:

It's made real clear in some flashback scenes that Carmelo started abusing him because of his own internalized hom*ophobia and he makes it clear that if Rudy was FTM he would not have cared because he would still be a girl to him.

And considering this is like a mid 2010s high-school, I doubt Rudolph being AFAB would be a secret for long due to locker rooms, bathrooms, and high school gossip. And if there was any of those very obvious ways of finding out he was a trans guy, Carmelo not knowing and bullying him due to his own internal hom*ophobia because of his crush on who he sees as another cis dude GETS REALLY DUMB. Like slapstick levels 'how did you never realize'

Although I do genuinely love this HC so imma add on: *ahem* his dad doesn't really know how to be supportive so he tries treating him like a cis boy in terms of how he treats and projects traditional masculinity, and dispite having some mixed reception does get across how much he cares to Rudy
