I'm sorry.
I can't help laughing....
Every time I look at those Gundam Helmets I can only think of one thing...
Red Corsair of Questionable European Nobility.
And I need an avatar. <fixed>

I'd LOVE for the Rainbow and Derpy Gundams to be available!

Here's my take on ... the thing that's making the fanbase more loco in the coco than usual:
"Tall and dark and really handsome ... the hunk from Oo-Oo-Nima's real dumb ... And when he strolls, each one he strolls by goes, 'BLEAAAAAAH!'"

People being surprised or concerned about this new direction doesn't bother me at all, it's the hysterical freak-outs that make me sigh and roll my eyes. There were similar reactions to Cadance, but an evil impostor, a fallible Celestia, Twi freaking out and being right to do so, and an invasion of creepy bug-pony things managed to make that episode pretty awesome anyway.
The folks at DHX have earned some trust. Yeah, I'd rather see this as a 2-parter, but I'm withholding judgement until I actually have seen it. I wish everyone who was having conniptions would just recite the MST3K mantra and chill until they actually have an episode to complain about.
Now that I've gotten that out of my system, here's some more pony GIFs.

I've run across a nice comedy fic for the AJ fans out there. Just one chapter so far, but it's a pretty good one.
Ponyville's most diligent, dependable, and honest gal has -- unknown to her -- gathered a lot of fans over the years. In fact, almost every mare in town has a bad case of unrequited love for the farmpony. Every Tuesday, while AJ is busy applebucking, they have meetings of their support group: Applejack Anonymous. This Tuesday, AJ's about to find out just how popular she is...

"Advice From Pinkie Pie" deals with the subject of sex without getting cloppy, handles the topic in a mature and healthy way, and manages to stay funny.
ETA: The digital edition of issue #3 of the comic is apparently landing tomorrow. With a cover like this, I can't wait!
